Developer interested in building data center
Hubbard Township Trustees are engaging with a developer interested in building a data center off Route 62. This comes after the Township previously enacted a year-long moratorium on data centers due to interest from another developer. The Trustees are seeking community input before moving forward with discussions on the new proposal.
Hubbard Township Trustees are engaging with a developer interested in constructing a data center off Route 62. This interest follows a previous attempt by a different developer in January, which was halted when the Trustees passed a year-long moratorium on data centers in February. The new proposed site is the former Taylor-Winfield facility, located off Route 82 and Hubbard-Thomas Road.
Trustees Chairman Fred Tedrow highlighted the potential for substantial financial benefits for the Township, ranging from $10 million to $30 million in upfront payments, with the overall investment estimated at $2 billion. Despite the potential gains, Tedrow and Trustee Rick Lamb expressed caution after a recent trip to the 9,000-acre data center facility in New Albany, Ohio, which they described as a "sales pitch." They raised concerns about the precedent of allowing one data center and the potential for many more to follow along the existing high-tension lines in the Township.
The Trustees emphasized a commitment to transparency and are actively encouraging homeowners to weigh in on the proposed development before any further steps are taken. The moratorium, enacted due to interest in a 242-acre heavy industrial zone property off Mount Everett Road, grants the Township time to assess such developments.
