Residents of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, are expressing concerns following the city's confirmation of a new 100,000-square-foot data center slated for a lot along 33rd Avenue Southwest, just north of Highway 30.

Neighbors cited increased traffic as a primary worry, with one resident stating, "I'm not thrilled about that part of it." Many expressed surprise, noting they never expected such a development so close to their homes and hadn't thought to check existing zoning when they purchased their properties years ago.

Mayor Tiffany O'Donnell addressed the concerns, emphasizing that the property has been zoned for light industrial use since the early 2000s. She explained that zoning exists to provide transparency, ensuring people considering moving to or living in an area are aware of what is permitted. City leaders maintain the project aligns with these long-standing zoning regulations.
