Portland General Electric (PGE) is seeking regulatory approval to increase electricity rates for large data centers by 29%. This proposal comes as other customer groups would see a slight rate decrease. The utility states this change aligns with new state laws requiring data centers to cover their full impact on the power supply.

Portland General Electric (PGE) has filed for regulatory approval to implement a significant rate increase specifically for large data centers. The utility is proposing a 29% hike for these facilities, while residential and other customer groups would experience a slight decrease of approximately 1.3%.

According to PGE, this proposed rate structure aligns with new legislation recently passed by Oregon state lawmakers. These new rules mandate that data centers bear the full cost of their impact on the state's power supply.

The Oregon Public Utilities Commission is expected to review the request, and if approved, the revised rates for data centers could take effect as early as next week.
