Google announced plans to build a $500 million data center in Lima, Ohio. The project represents one of the largest private-sector investments in the history of the region. In addition to the $500 million capital investment, the plan includes a $50 million investment for local infrastructure enhancements such as upgrades to regional wastewater, water supply, and roadway infrastructure. Cynthia Leis, president and CEO of the Allen Economic Development Group, called the project a "transformative turning point" for the regional economy, saying it will not just create jobs but also reinforce infrastructure, support educational institutions, and safeguard the community's future. Google has also agreed to provide $250,000 in annual funding to the local Elida school district as part of a 15-year tax abatement agreement. The data center will function as a hub for powering day-to-day technologies, including personal electronics, hospitals, businesses, and government services. Beyond construction jobs, the project will also generate permanent positions within the digital economy and increase property tax revenue for the region.
