Aethel Energy is considering a potential $66 billion data center development near Lost Cabin in Fremont County, supported by up to 500 megawatts of on-site natural gas generation. Because the county has no zoning regulations, local officials and residents have limited ability to review or influence the project, though some residents view it as an economic opportunity.

Aethel Energy is nearing completion of a 1-megawatt data center near Lost Cabin and may pursue a much larger, potentially $66 billion buildout consisting of multiple buildings or campuses. The proposed development could use approximately 500 megawatts of natural gas-generated power and would be the largest data center project proposed in Wyoming if constructed.

Fremont County Commissioner Clarence Thomas said county officials have little information or authority because the county has no zoning regulations. Planning Director Steve Baumann said the project is proceeding through the state permitting process, including reviews by the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality, Industrial Siting Council and Wyoming Game and Fish Department. The Powder River Basin Resource Council raised concerns about limited community input, while local resident Zane Fross expressed support, citing potential benefits for jobs, schools, roads and tax revenue.
