Brush City Council hears concerns over potential data centers
A Brush, Colorado resident presented an informal survey to the City Council indicating overwhelming community opposition to potential data center development, primarily due to concerns about resource use and environmental impacts. The City Council is actively working to develop data center standards to have in place before any applications are received.
During a September 14 Brush City Council meeting, a resident presented results from an anonymous Facebook survey conducted after the council's previous discussion of potential data center development. The survey, which received 173 responses, revealed that 93% of respondents were primarily concerned with resource use, followed by environmental impacts.
Overwhelmingly, 94% of respondents stated they did not support a data center being built in the area. The survey also touched on council meeting attendance, noting that 61% of respondents had never attended a council meeting.
City Administrator Monty Torres asked council members to provide feedback on draft data center standards. These standards were reviewed during a special meeting the previous week, with the goal of having them in place before the city receives any future data center applications.
