Is the Fargo area getting another data center?
Geronimo Power, a Minnesota-based energy company, has a purchase agreement for over 600 acres in rural Cass County, North Dakota. The company recently promoted the economic benefits of data centers in the region, leading to speculation about a new facility near Fargo.
More than 600 acres of land in rural Cass County, North Dakota, may be sold to Geronimo Power, a Minnesota-based energy company. A company representing Geronimo Power is listed as the buyer in a purchase agreement for the land, currently owned by Ideal Egg Corporation. The agreement, dated June 1st, serves to notify third parties of the buyer's rights but does not include dollar amounts and is not a final land sale. The president of Ideal Egg Corporation declined to comment on the potential sale when asked.
Speculation about a new data center arose after Geronimo Power published videos in July titled "How data centers can strengthen Minnesota communities" and "The economic benefits of data centers in North Dakota." However, a representative for Geronimo Power stated on Wednesday morning that the company does not have a permit application for a Cass County data center and has not purchased any land in Durban Township. The company describes itself as a national leader in solar, wind, storage, and data center co-location.
In a statement to The Forum, a company representative confirmed they recently began construction on Harmony Solar, a 200-megawatt project also located in Cass County. For InForum, Chris Kersman reported on the developing story.
