Another Florida County Votes To Approve Data Center Moratorium
Martin County commissioners voted 4-0 to impose a temporary moratorium of up to one year on large-scale AI data centers. The action followed resident opposition to a proposed facility near western Kanner Highway, although that project was submitted before the initial vote and will still be considered.
Martin County commissioners voted unanimously to impose a temporary, one-year moratorium on large-scale AI data centers after residents raised concerns about a proposed facility along western Kanner Highway. Opponents said the site is too close to homes and schools and called for further study of data centers’ potential community impacts.
The proposed facility is exempt from the moratorium because its request was submitted before the county’s initial vote, so commissioners will still review it. The action follows Palm Beach County’s adoption of a separate one-year moratorium on hyperscale data centers.
