Union Township residents strongly opposed a proposed data center along state Route 829 at a public meeting in Huntingdon County. Residents raised unanswered questions about water use, noise, light pollution, environmental impacts and projected financial benefits, while supervisors said no decision had been made and the developer had not yet been identified.

Union Township residents packed the Trough Creek Valley Fire Hall to challenge township supervisors over a proposed data center planned along state Route 829 in Huntingdon County. Speakers questioned the project’s potential effects on water supplies, noise and light pollution, quality of life, the Trough Creek Valley environment and local finances. Many residents said they opposed the project regardless of projected tax or economic benefits.

Township supervisors acknowledged that key details remained unresolved, including the project’s water source and developer, and said they had not voted to approve or reject it. Amazon and Google were mentioned during the meeting, but a representative for the landowner said no buyer had been selected. Union Township does not currently have a zoning ordinance; officials said a complete ban was not available, but rules addressing noise, light, water use, buffers and utility costs could be adopted. No action was taken, and residents were directed to a future supervisors meeting.
