Tyrone Township officials go silent when asked about data center NDAs
Tyrone Township residents are pressing local officials for answers regarding Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) signed with private parties concerning data center projects. Officials largely refused to confirm or deny signing NDAs during a public meeting, despite the township having enacted a temporary moratorium on new data center development. Residents are concerned about transparency and their exclusion from the development process.
During a public meeting in Tyrone Township, Michigan, residents questioned local officials about whether they had signed Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) with private developers or landowners concerning current or potential data center projects that could impact the township. Resident Chris Roberta specifically asked each official present, including Jennifer, Greg Carns, Pam Moffler, Herman Ferguson, and Zack Tucker, if they had personally signed any NDAs or engaged in private communications regarding data centers.
Most officials either refused to answer, stating "not the time and place," or remained silent. Jennifer explicitly said, "I'm not answering your question. This is not the time and place." Greg Carns and Pam Moffler also declined to answer. Zack Tucker, who had reportedly answered similar questions at a previous planning commission meeting, also refused to answer during this session.
The questioning comes as Tyrone Township has already implemented a temporary moratorium on new data center development. However, residents are still seeking transparency regarding past communications and agreements, expressing concerns about being excluded from the process. The heated exchange highlighted ongoing tensions between the community and local government over data center development.
