Microsoft hosting direct open house June 23, says Sturtevant noise complaints have been resolved
Microsoft is hosting a community open house in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, to address local residents' questions about its data center campus. The company claims to have resolved previous noise complaints from Sturtevant residents regarding cooling fans. Microsoft also detailed plans for further expansion and hiring at the campus.
Microsoft is preparing for a community open house on June 23, 2026, to engage with residents regarding its data center campus in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin. This follows an April 9 open house where Sturtevant residents, particularly from the Chicory Creek and Majestic Hills subdivisions, expressed significant concerns over noise and light pollution from the 24/7 construction, specifically citing the "deafening" sound of newly installed cooling fans.
Sturtevant President Mike Rosenbaum had previously highlighted the disruptive nature of the noise. Microsoft confirmed that it investigated the sound source, conducted tests, and implemented noise mitigations within two weeks, which they believe have fully resolved the issue for a group of neighbors. The company plans further short-term mitigation and additional sound reduction components over the coming months.
In addition to addressing community concerns, Microsoft announced plans to expand its workforce, hiring 125 additional employees for the first data center, bringing its total to approximately 500. Upon completion of the second data center, the workforce is expected to reach 800. The company also intends to build 15 more data centers at the Mount Pleasant campus, projecting hundreds of new jobs with approximately 50 full-time staff and vendors per building.
