Governor Announces EdgeConneX & Stream Data Centers Commit to Comply With His Data Center Standards
Governor Greg Abbott announced that EdgeConneX and Stream Data Centers will comply with the statewide data center standards he established for Texas. These standards are designed to protect the electric grid, conserve water, respect neighborhoods, and prevent data centers from imposing costs on Texas families. The Public Utilities Commission of Texas and ERCOT are tasked with auditing projects for compliance.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that data center companies EdgeConneX and Stream Data Centers have agreed to comply with the new statewide standards he established for data center development in Texas. Governor Abbott stated that these "clear guardrails" are designed to protect the state's electric grid, promote water conservation, ensure respect for local neighborhoods, and prevent data centers from imposing costs on Texas residents or interfering with their quality of life.
Earlier this summer, Governor Abbott directed the Public Utilities Commission of Texas (PUCT) and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) to implement these standards. The directives mandate that PUCT and ERCOT will examine and audit each data center project to assess its impact on grid stability, water resources, and community well-being, requiring complete information before projects can proceed. Governor Abbott emphasized that any company failing to comply with ERCOT's audit process will face denial of approval, noting that other data centers across the state have either committed to full compliance or ceased their projects since the directives were issued.
