Butler County tables proposed data center regulations until September

Butler County leaders are actively developing new regulations for future data center developments within the county. The planning commission recently spent time reviewing these proposed rules, which cover critical aspects such as water usage, sound levels, and site planning.

However, the commission decided to table the regulations until September 1st, stating that members require more time for review before sending them for final consideration. County Administrator William Johnson indicated that while some developers have expressed interest in Butler County properties, no data center applications are currently on file. He also suggested that the strict nature of the proposed rules, similar to past solar farm regulations, could deter developers.

In a separate but related development, a Butler County judge is expected to issue a ruling on Friday concerning a citizen's petition related to data centers in El Dorado. The judge will determine whether the City of El Dorado is legally required to abide by the petition's demands or if the petition is not legally enforceable.
