Federal officials are currently evaluating a land exchange proposal involving Highland Digital, a developer seeking to construct a minimum of four data centers adjacent to Prince William Forest Park in Prince William County, Virginia. The plan entails Highland Digital trading 73 acres of wetlands for 36 acres of federally owned parkland located along the park's western boundary.
The proposed development has drawn concerns from conservation organizations, which assert that the project could negatively impact the water quality of Quantico Creek, described as one of Northern Virginia's most pristine streams. Concurrently, local political figures, including Board Chair Deshundra Jefferson, have voiced skepticism regarding the appropriateness of data center construction within or near the park's perimeter.
