Manitowoc County Commission to Discuss Data Center Moratorium
The Manitowoc County Planning and Park Commission will hold public hearings for rezoning requests and subsequently discuss a petition to enact a moratorium on data center construction. This discussion follows requests from several towns within the county.
The Manitowoc County Planning and Park Commission Advisory Board and the full Planning and Park Commission are scheduled to meet on March 30th at the County Office Complex in Manitowoc. The meetings will begin with five public hearings concerning rezoning applications in the Towns of Cato, Rockland, Manitowoc Rapids, and Maple Grove.
Following these hearings, the Commission will address a petition proposing an ordinance to amend Manitowoc County's code. This amendment seeks to enact a moratorium on receiving applications and granting permits for data center placement or construction. The request for this moratorium originated from the Towns of Mishicot, Two Rivers, and Two Creeks, prompted by outreach to their residents by an unnamed group interested in purchasing land for a data center near Mishicot.
