Mountain City Planning Commission denies data center rezoning request
The Mountain City Planning Commission unanimously denied a rezoning request for a proposed data center at 1455 South Shady Street. Residents and local business owners opposed the project, citing concerns about its impact on the community and nearby businesses.
The Mountain City Planning Commission in Tennessee unanimously rejected a rezoning request that would have enabled a proposed data center at 1455 South Shady Street. The decision followed public opposition from residents and business owners who spoke during Thursday night's meeting.
Business owner Neil Pleasant said the project could harm her restaurant, which she and her husband were developing after investing hundreds of thousands of dollars. Mayor Jerry Jordan said he was disappointed that the commission had to vote against the proposal. The report noted that the community had also opposed a proposed bitcoin mine in Mountain City about a year earlier.
