Mahomet ends talks on proposed data center project
The Village of Mahomet ended discussions with Clean Cloud Energy about a potential data center near the community’s southeast side. Mayor Jason S. Tompkins said overwhelming public opposition and resident concerns contributed significantly to the decision not to proceed.
The Village of Mahomet has ended discussions with Clean Cloud Energy over a proposed data center near the southeast side of the community. In an Oct. 5 release, village officials said they would no longer pursue opportunities with the company after evaluating the project and considering public feedback.
Mayor Jason S. Tompkins said residents’ questions, concerns and overwhelming opposition played a significant role in the decision. He also praised village staff for gathering information and assessing the potential effects of a project of that scale before officials decided not to move forward.
