Data center company to hold Q&A session in Yadkinville
White Fiber will hold a public question-and-answer session in Yadkinville about its plan to retrofit portions of Unifi’s former manufacturing properties into data centers. The event follows community concerns about water use, power-grid impacts, noise and environmental effects, as well as Yadkin County’s approval of a two-year moratorium on new data center development.
White Fiber plans to meet with Yadkinville-area residents on Oct. 29 at the Yadkin County Agricultural and Educational Building to answer questions about its proposed data center project. The company intends to purchase portions of Unifi’s manufacturing properties and convert the buildings for data center use, citing existing industrial zoning that specifically permits data centers.
The forum follows a September presentation by White Fiber representative Jonathan Collins to the Yadkinville Town Board and concerns raised by residents at town meetings and a county hearing. Residents have questioned potential effects on water resources, electricity infrastructure, noise and environmental waste. Separately, the Yadkin County Board of Commissioners approved a two-year moratorium on data centers while it studies land-use planning and possible zoning rules, although the pause does not apply within municipalities such as Yadkinville.
