The Shelby County Plan Commission is working to advance a proposed data center ordinance for the unincorporated portions of Shelby County, aiming to establish controls on future data center developments. This ordinance is separate from any data center discussions related to the City of Shelbyville.
Following a public meeting on Tuesday, attended by approximately 50 people at Breck Auditorium, the Plan Commission has adjusted its upcoming meeting schedule. The commission plans to meet again on July 28 to refine specific definitions within the ordinance and address any remaining concerns.
A crucial vote by the Plan Commission has been moved up to August 12, where they will make a recommendation to the Shelby County Commissioners. This accelerated timeline is intended to allow the Commissioners to vote on the ordinance before the county's six-month moratorium on data center construction expires on August 23.
