Hanover Humane Society raises concerns over warehouse project near data center
The Hanover Humane Society is opposing two proposed warehouses near its property in Ashland, citing expected truck noise and vibrations that could harm shelter dogs. The projects, being developed by Oppidan Incorporated near a small data center, require permits and approvals from Ashland and Hanover County, including a public hearing.
The Hanover Humane Society is urging residents to attend a community meeting about two warehouses proposed near its property in Ashland. Operations Director Andrew Paine said heavy truck traffic, noise and low-frequency vibrations could disrupt trails used to rehabilitate and socialize shelter dogs. The humane society is seeking a relocated access road or engineered sound and visual barriers rather than opposing development outright.
Oppidan Incorporated is developing the warehouses and a small data center on adjacent property. One warehouse would be in Ashland and require approval because it would exceed town height regulations, while the county-side warehouse requires Hanover County Board of Supervisors approval, conditional-use permitting and rezoning. The Hanover County Planning Department has requested changes, and the proposals will proceed through additional planning review, a public hearing and eventual votes by the relevant local governments.
