Opponents of a proposed data center in Mandan, North Dakota, are collecting signatures for a petition. The petition asks the city for a one-year moratorium on the project to allow for more environmental studies and addresses concerns about the location's proximity to schools and residences.
Residents of Mandan, North Dakota, are actively opposing a proposed data center project, initiating a petition to request a one-year moratorium from the city. The petition, which will be presented at an upcoming Mandan Planning and Zoning meeting, seeks to allow more time for comprehensive environmental studies.
Sheila Froehlich, an organizer of the opposition, expressed significant concern regarding the project's planned location. She highlighted its close proximity to new residential areas, as well as Mandan's middle and high schools, noting that even high school students have expressed their disapproval by signing the petition. Stark power, identified as the company behind the proposed development, confirmed that the project is in its nascent stages and that they have secured a right to purchase property from three landowners for the site.
