A public meeting is scheduled in Hereford, Texas, where the Deaf Smith County Hospital District Board of Directors will review a tax abatement proposal from Google for its "Roman Project" data center. The meeting, set for July 23 at the Hereford Regional Medical Center, will focus solely on the tax incentives, with other critical aspects like water use and environmental impact not on the agenda for this specific board.
Concurrently, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is accepting public comments until July 24 regarding the proposed air quality permit for the data center, specifically addressing concerns related to its power generation facility. The "Roman Project" is slated for a site 13 to 20 miles northwest of Hereford and is projected to create 2,500 construction jobs and approximately 90 permanent operations positions for Deaf Smith County.
