Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen has announced the appointment of 17 members to the newly established Data Center Task Force. This task force will operate under the oversight of the Nebraska Department of Water, Environment and Energy (DWEE) and is charged with comprehensively evaluating the effects of data center development on the state's vital resources.
Governor Pillen emphasized the critical nature of the task force's work, acknowledging the booming data center industry while stressing the need to safeguard Nebraska's water resources, power grids, and local infrastructure. He noted that the diverse expertise of the appointed members would ensure sound decisions, balancing development with environmental preservation.
The task force's mandate also includes collaborating with county officials to ensure the effective management of future data center growth across Nebraska. The inaugural meeting of the task force is anticipated to take place within the next month, signaling the commencement of its work.
