While the Trump administration advocates for a federal AI framework, state leaders like Governor Ron DeSantis prefer state-level guidelines. Although a proposed AI bill of rights supported by DeSantis failed to pass, the Florida legislature did enact a bill last month with specific regulations for data centers. This new law, co-sponsored by State Senator Don Gaetz and signed by Governor DeSantis, mandates that AI data centers pay for their own utilities, preventing cost shifting to consumers.
