Warnock, Johnson ask EPA to regulate diesel generators at data centers
Sen. Raphael Warnock and Rep. Hank Johnson urged the Environmental Protection Agency to regulate emissions from diesel generators used at data centers in Georgia. They said the generators’ combined pollution could significantly harm nearby communities and exceed emissions from Georgia Power’s two large coal plants.
U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock and U.S. Rep. Hank Johnson asked the Environmental Protection Agency to begin regulating emissions from diesel generators used by data center operators for backup power and during periods of peak electricity demand.
In an Oct. 22 letter, the Georgia Democrats criticized the EPA for not overseeing the generators. They said hundreds are operating at Georgia data centers and that their combined nitric oxide emissions could more than double those from Georgia Power’s two major coal-fired power plants, even when the generators comply with state standards.
