Teachers in Richland Parish get bonuses due to Meta data center
Richland Parish school teachers received significant end-of-year bonuses, or "13th checks," ranging from $17,000 to over $50,000. This payout is a direct result of a short-term surge in tax revenues generated by Meta's $27 billion Hyperion Data Center project in the parish. The school system anticipates continued revenue generation from the project through 2030.
Richland Parish school teachers have received a historic payout in the form of end-of-year bonuses, referred to as "13th checks."
According to NOLA.com, these bonuses ranged from approximately $17,000 to more than $50,000. This financial windfall is attributed to a short-term increase in tax revenues stemming from Meta's $27 billion Hyperion Data Center project located in Richland Parish. Some educators received bonuses equivalent to or even exceeding their full annual salary, which averages around $40,000 in the district.
School officials reported that over 100 certified employees received the full payment, while others received partial checks based on their years of experience. The school system stated that this significant revenue surge is expected to continue through 2030, as the large-scale data center project generates millions in sales tax revenue for the parish.
