Mason County approves development agreement with Meta for data center
Mason County Fiscal Court approved a development agreement and zoning for Meta’s planned hyperscale data center near Big Pond Pike. The project is expected to bring hundreds of permanent jobs and thousands of construction jobs, but dozens of residents may be displaced and a local opposition group is challenging the development.
Mason County Fiscal Court approved zoning and a development agreement with Meta for a hyperscale data center planned on more than 2,000 acres around Big Pond Pike near Maysville. County economic development director Tyler McHugh said the investment could generate hundreds of permanent jobs, thousands of construction and trade jobs, and broader economic growth for Mason County.
The project is expected to displace dozens of residents, including people living at the Metoand Village Trailer Park. Residents initially reported being offered $20,000 buyouts, with later offers reportedly rising to $50,000. Pastor Greg Jones is among those affected, while We Are Mason County executive director Max Moran said the group opposes the development but had not issued a formal statement on the latest county action.
