Sixth District congressional candidate Beth Macy criticized incumbent Rep. Ben Cline over his record on data center regulation and questioned his support for a pause on construction. She highlighted two Google hyperscale data centers planned in Botetourt County, including projected water use of 2 million to 8 million gallons daily from the Carvins Cove Reservoir.

Democratic congressional candidate Beth Macy campaigned in Harrisonburg with local party activists and elected officials as she challenged Republican Rep. Ben Cline in Virginia's 6th District. Macy said costs, government corruption, artificial intelligence safeguards and data center development are among her top issues, and accused Cline of opposing data center regulation while accepting donations from Google.

Macy said Google is developing two hyperscale data centers in the Roanoke area, including one in Botetourt County near the candidates' homes. She cited projections that the facility could use 2 million to 8 million gallons of water per day from Carvins Cove Reservoir, raising concerns about the aging reservoir's ability to continue supplying the region. Macy also argued that data centers produce relatively few long-term jobs and said Cline's recently expressed support for pausing construction was not sincere.
