City Manager Chris Fine emphasized that the moratorium is a preventative step, as Miamisburg currently lacks specific guidelines for data center proposals, even though no formal application has been submitted. This follows developers marketing an old power center as a potential site for data centers.
Residents, including Tim Gaffney and Jana Vedantam, expressed relief and support for the council's decision, viewing it as a crucial step for community engagement. Vedantam is also actively pursuing a charter amendment to limit the size of data centers, reflecting broader public concern in a state that ranks fifth nationally for data center presence, with over 200 facilities.
