Durbin Township board to consider data center moratorium
The Durbin Township Board in Cass County, North Dakota, is considering a moratorium on data center development as Geronimo Power evaluates a potential project in the township. The board plans to consider the moratorium at its Oct. 14 meeting, although Geronimo Power has not submitted a conditional-use permit application.
The Durbin Township Board held a special meeting in Mapleton to discuss zoning issues related to a potential data center from Minnesota-based Geronimo Power. Board Chair Keith Gohdes said the township has not received a conditional-use permit application, and zoning administrator Mike Blevins explained that most township land is currently zoned for agriculture.
The board is considering a moratorium on data centers and may use the pause to review its zoning ordinances. Geronimo Power is also evaluating Harmony Township, where officials are scheduled to meet later in October. The Durbin board is expected to consider the moratorium on Oct. 14, while Geronimo Power plans another question-and-answer session with residents in Mapleton.
