Vance County commissioners will hold a special meeting to consider extending the county’s moratorium on data center development. A data center proposal from Natelli Holdings remains under technical compliance review while county officials consider new development standards in the unified development ordinance.

Vance County Board of Commissioners Chair Carolyn Faines scheduled a Nov. 13 special meeting to consider extending the county’s data center moratorium. The extension may be needed because the existing moratorium could expire before proposed revisions to the unified development ordinance reach the commissioners for action.

The county planning board is expected to review a data center section of the ordinance prepared by N-Focus facilitator Michael Harvey. Officials discussed distinguishing major and minor data centers based on power demand and utility needs.

Natelli Holdings’ data center application, submitted in September, remains in technical compliance review. Planning and Development Director Sherry Moss said county staff is reviewing revisions prompted by technical review comments, with no specific completion timeline established.
