Harrodsburg City Commission Approves Zoning Ordinance for Hyperscale Data Center
The Harrodsburg City Commission approved an ordinance creating an Industrial Technology Zone that would allow construction of a single hyperscale data center in the industrial park along U.S. 127. The ordinance passed despite opposition from Commissioner Charlie Mattingly and follows the Mercer County Fiscal Court's rejection of a similar measure.
The Harrodsburg City Commission approved a data-center zoning ordinance on second reading, establishing an Industrial Technology Zone for the industrial park along U.S. 127. The zone would permit construction of a single hyperscale data center. Mayor Bob Williams said the ordinance gives the city flexibility to negotiate tax reductions and infrastructure improvements, while emphasizing that the city—not the county—would make the final decision.
Commissioner Charlie Mattingly opposed the measure, but it passed by majority vote with Commissioner Jack Coleman supporting it. The Mercer County Fiscal Court had previously denied the ordinance, and the county has a moratorium on data-center construction; Harrodsburg does not.
