Aurora's Green Valley Ranch residents concerned as city considers second data center nearby
Aurora is reviewing a proposed 860,000-square-foot Trident data center on 143 acres in northeast Aurora, near Green Valley Ranch. Residents are opposing the project over diesel generators, noise, pollution, water concerns, public notification and health impacts, while the City Council has approved a ban on evaporative cooling for future data centers.
Aurora is considering the Trident data center, an approximately 860,000-square-foot facility proposed for 143 acres in northeast Aurora, about five miles north of the city’s existing major data center. The project remains in the city’s approval process and is expected to use a closed-loop cooling system, with plans for 28 diesel generators that residents say could face their neighborhood.
Green Valley Ranch residents told CBS Colorado they learned about the proposal through social media and feel they were not adequately notified. They are seeking mitigation measures addressing noise, water pollution, public notice and respiratory health concerns. During the same week, the Aurora City Council voted to prohibit evaporative cooling in future data centers, though the Trident project itself is still under review.
