Iron County commissioners in Cedar City, Utah, have enacted a 180-day moratorium on three power generation and data center projects. This pause allows the county to develop a new ordinance to regulate future proposals. The goal is to protect citizens and establish a fair process for incoming projects.

Iron County commissioners paused three power generation and data center projects for up to 180 days while the county develops a new ordinance for future proposals and temporarily halts new applications. “This is going to give us time to step back, look at all of those issues, and formulate an ordinance that's going to benefit Iron County, first and foremost, to protect our citizens, make sure that what we're doing is going to be beneficial to the citizens and not be harmful to them in any way, as well as level that playing field and make that a fair process for those projects that are coming,” County Commissioner Mike Bleak said. “We know that there are other entities around us that are experiencing the same thing, and we're trying to learn from them and integrate their best practices as well as address our individual needs that we're finding as we move along the process,” he said.
