Tony and Roxanne Wright, a family in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, have expressed "seller's remorse" after selling dozens of acres of their family land to an out-of-state developer three years ago. The family, who initially believed the land would be used for building houses, now understands the developer's plan is to construct an AI data center campus. Their regret stems partly from having less space at their new home and Roxanne Wright's general disapproval of data centers.

The developer, identified as HB 2 K Company with a Miami mailing address, aims to build another data center in the area, which already hosts a facility serving major companies like TNT and Disney. HB 2 K Company did not respond to messages from Queen City News.

Legal documents from a lawsuit filed by HB 2 K Company against the City of Kings Mountain this year over utilities indicate that the property is "fully entitled as an AI data center campus with approve zoning and power pathway." Despite the approved plans, Tony Wright notes there has been no visible development progress since the property was sold in 2023. The family maintains ownership of a small cemetery on the original property, which they refuse to sell.
