The Hanover Humane Society says construction noise from a nearby Oppidan Investment Company data center is reaching 80 to 85 decibels and disturbing dogs at its Ashland-area facility. The organization is also opposing two proposed warehouses that could bring heavy truck traffic and additional noise close to its property, with county approval still required.

The Hanover Humane Society says construction of an Oppidan Investment Company data center beside its facility in Hanover County is producing noise levels of 80 to 85 decibels, disrupting operations and causing distress to dogs. Andrew Paine, who works at the humane society, said the noise interferes with a trail used to socialize and rehabilitate animals that have often been abused, neglected or abandoned.

The organization is particularly concerned about Oppidan's proposal to build two larger warehouses nearby, which could route heavy commercial truck traffic just feet from the facility. Oppidan said it is taking the concerns seriously and has offered to build a fence along the shared property line while continuing discussions with the humane society. The warehouse project requires county approval, and the humane society planned to address the issue at an Ashland town hall and upcoming meetings with the developer.
