Fayette Co. commissioners adopt year-long data center moratorium
Fayette County commissioners in Ohio approved a year-long moratorium on new data center development in seven unincorporated townships. The moratorium blocks related zoning applications and building permits through June 1, 2027, while the county studies impacts on roads, utilities, emergency services and land-use planning.
Fayette County commissioners approved a moratorium halting new data center development in unincorporated portions of Concord, Green, Jasper, Madison, Marion, Paint and Perry townships through June 1, 2027. The resolution bars the county from accepting or processing zoning certificates, rezoning requests or building permits for new or expanded data centers, except for projects already authorized.
Commissioners said the pause will allow the county and its consultants to assess potential effects on roads, utilities and emergency services while an update to the comprehensive land-use plan is completed. The vote followed weeks of resident opposition and annexation petitions in Jefferson Township, where landowners have sought to move farmland into Jeffersonville ahead of potential large-scale data center projects.
