A public hearing drew substantial opposition to Will-Power’s proposed 260-megawatt gas-fired power plant and battery storage system in western Licking County. Residents and environmental advocates cited air pollution, water risks and fracking concerns, while supporters emphasized jobs and tax revenue; the plant would supply Meta’s nearby Prometheus data center campus.

A public hearing in New Albany attracted about 50 people, with roughly 20 testifying against Will-Power’s proposed 260-megawatt gas-fired power plant and battery storage system in western Licking County. Opponents, including nearby residents and Save Ohio Parks President Cathy Becker, raised concerns about emissions, stormwater runoff, water safety and the environmental effects of increased natural-gas extraction. Becker criticized the proposed use of simple-cycle turbines and engines, saying the facility would produce substantial greenhouse gases and other pollutants.

Supporters, including representatives of construction-related industries, pointed to jobs, equipment sales and tax revenue. The facility is intended to provide electricity to Meta’s Prometheus hyperscale data center campus in the New Albany International Business Park. The Ohio Power Siting Board is reviewing the proposal, with additional evidentiary proceedings and public comments scheduled through the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio.
