The San Angelo City Council has officially adopted water usage regulations for future data centers, after a previous deadlocked vote earlier this month. The new regulations were approved during a packed meeting at the convention center, where council members heard from several residents.

Residents voiced concerns about a planned data center to be built on 350 acres of land that was annexed into northeast San Angelo last year. The approved regulation includes a restriction of 11 million gallons of water annually for data centers.

Mayor Thompson emphasized the specificity of the regulation, noting it applies to 347 acres within city limits. He also indicated that the city will soon begin negotiations on a "380 agreement," which involves an exchange of obligations and will assess the financial worth of the effort.
