Granville zoning board hears data center appeal
The Granville Township zoning hearing board heard an appeal by PA Data Center Partners after township officials rejected the company’s proposed data center application over an alleged missing certification for its traffic study. The board is expected to reconvene in January after the parties submit legal briefs, while No Data Centers in Mifflin County continues to participate in the proceedings.
The Granville Township zoning hearing board held a two-hour hearing on PA Data Center Partners’ appeal of the township’s rejection of its proposed data center application. Township Manager Mary Herto said the application lacked a required certification covering the full traffic impact study and questioned the credentials of the engineer who certified portions of the work. The developer’s attorney, Shawn Gallinger, argued that the application met the zoning ordinance and that township officials exceeded their authority during the initial review.
About 150 people attended the hearing, which had been rescheduled to accommodate residents’ concerns. Catherine Wilsbach of LIVIC Civil, which prepared the application, testified, while zoning board solicitor Jeff Stover and attorney Bill Cluck, representing the nonprofit No Data Centers in Mifflin County, also participated. The parties will file legal briefs, and the board is expected to reconvene in January to deliberate on the appeal.
