Prometheus Hyperscale has abandoned plans for a nearly 1,000-acre data center project near the Natrona-Converse county line after months of local opposition. Residents raised concerns about generator noise, light pollution, emissions, traffic, property values and a temporary worker housing camp, while county officials said the project had not yet reached the application stage.

Prometheus Hyperscale President Trevor Neilson told Cowboy State Daily that the company will not pursue its proposed central Wyoming data center spanning Natrona and Converse counties. The planned liquid-cooled facilities could have created thousands of construction jobs, about 150 permanent positions and substantial property tax revenue, but local residents strongly criticized potential noise, emissions, traffic, light pollution and a temporary construction-worker camp.

Natrona County Commissioner Dave North said county officials were surprised by the withdrawal and had generally supported the proposal, while development director Sabrina Kemper confirmed that the company never submitted a formal application. Landowners are nevertheless continuing rezoning efforts that could preserve future development options. Prometheus is still advancing a separate $32 billion, 1.2-gigawatt campus near Evanston in Uinta County, where its conditional-use permit received a favorable planning recommendation and an administrative challenge was dismissed.
