Atlas Compute, a company based out of Miami, announced in November that they secured land in Fort Pierce, Florida to build an AI data center. However, WPTV reported that St. Lucie County leaders have not received any formal application or proposal for the project yet.
According to the report, the data center could be operational by 2027. WPTV spoke to a local resident named Juli Iles, who said she has questions about how the data center would impact her community, including its size, location, and effects on utilities and infrastructure.
The company claims the data center would use cooling technology to eliminate the need for water usage. St. Lucie County staff confirmed they issued a zoning verification letter in December for four parcels in the Midway Industrial Park that are owned by companies tied to the Miami address.
