White Cloud Township voter urges support for zoning initiative amid data center plans
A letter to the editor urges White Cloud Township residents to support a November ballot measure establishing township zoning. The writer says the measure would not stop the planned White Cloud Acres Data Center but would create a zoning board to regulate future development and address concerns such as traffic, noise, drainage and environmental impacts.
Cindy Lance, a White Cloud Township resident, is urging voters to approve a November zoning initiative for the township. She says the proposal would create a community zoning board and establish rules for future businesses, while clarifying that it would not prevent the current White Cloud Acres Data Center project from proceeding.
Lance argues that zoning would give residents greater influence over development near farms and homes and help address potential traffic, noise, lighting, drainage and environmental problems. She cites the data center project, an Evergy natural gas project and a highway interchange project as developments over which township residents had no direct vote, and says she will vote in favor of the initiative.
