Trumbull residents sought a data center moratorium. Officials said no.
Trumbull officials rejected residents’ proposal for a one-year moratorium on new data centers. Residents cited environmental, health and safety concerns, while the town said its existing land-use review process was sufficient; the town’s only data center is being modernized.
The Trumbull Planning and Zoning Commission rejected a proposed zoning text amendment that would have defined data centers and temporarily barred new facilities for one year. Residents Sherry Boyd, Sarah Beck and Richard W. White supported the measure, citing environmental, health and safety concerns, and Beck’s petition collected more than 1,460 signatures.
Town Land Use Planner Rob Librandi said the proposal was denied because Trumbull already has a land-use process for reviewing development applications and has received no applications for additional data centers. The town’s existing facility at 80 Merritt Blvd. is expected to undergo modernization, including the demolition of one of its three buildings.
