Developer eyes 423-acre Delhi Township site for $10B data center development
The Lansing Economic Area Partnership is pursuing a potential $10 billion data center on more than 400 acres in Delhi Township's Holt Economic Opportunity Park. Amid community pushback and concerns about secrecy, Delhi Township has withdrawn from LEAP, saying it wants to prioritize residents and local interests.
The Lansing Economic Area Partnership, or LEAP, is promoting a possible $10 billion data center on a 423-acre vacant site in Delhi Township near Holt, between College Road and Cedar Street west of U.S. 127. The project would be developed at the Holt Economic Opportunity Park, but it faces community resistance and criticism over the way large data center projects are being handled.
LEAP selected Lighthouse Sustainability to lead an extensive community input process intended to let residents help shape the proposal. LEAP representatives described the data center as a high-value, relatively low-impact use for the property, while acknowledging that the development team would abandon the project if the community ultimately rejects it. Delhi Township separately announced that it was immediately ending its membership in LEAP, citing the need to protect residents and ensure decisions reflect local interests.
