SpaceXAI announces removal of temporary turbines from Southaven data center

These will be replaced by a permanent 1.2 GW power plant, currently under construction, with advanced emission control and noise reduction technologies. The company has an agreed order with the Mississippi Department of Energy Quality regarding the timeline for turbine removal.
SpaceXAI has announced its intention to replace the 69 temporary mobile turbines powering its data center in Southaven, Mississippi, with a permanent 1.2 GW power plant. The removal of the temporary turbines is scheduled to begin in August 2026 and conclude by July 2027.
The company has reached an agreed order with the Mississippi Department of Energy Quality to establish a timeline for the turbine replacement. The permanent power plant, which will house 41 turbines, is currently under construction and is being developed in compliance with a Clean Air Act permit.
SpaceXAI stated that it is investing in advanced emission control technology for the mobile turbines, including selective catalytic reduction devices, and asserts that local air quality continues to meet or exceed EPA standards. Additionally, the company plans to invest millions in sound walls, silencers, and next-generation quieting technologies through partnerships with the surrounding community to mitigate noise impact.
