Wichita Falls mayoral candidate Tim Short discusses data center growth and Skybox project
Wichita Falls Mayor Tim Short said he supports economic growth but is not specifically pro-data center development as the city considers rapid expansion in the sector. He endorsed Skybox's planned data center complex, saying it would use minimal water and does not require tax incentives, but construction is awaiting state audits and electricity-use approval.
Wichita Falls Mayor Tim Short, seeking another term, said the city has been approached by more than 15 data center developers because of its available land, water and power. He said many sought tax incentives, while Skybox did not and appeared to be a good fit for the city's business park.
Skybox purchased 225 acres for nearly $14.63 million and is awaiting state audit results and approval related to electricity usage before starting construction. Short said the company had addressed concerns including water consumption, while emphasizing that his position is support for economic growth rather than for data centers specifically.
