North Perry Village Council has unanimously approved a 12-month moratorium on data center permits. North Perry Village Council voted unanimously on June 4 to impose a 12-month moratorium on granting permits for data centers. The temporary prohibition aims to allow the village's Planning Commission to review and update its zoning code to establish clear regulations for the construction and operation of data centers.

Mayor Brian Titus emphasized that the moratorium is not a permanent ban but a measure to proactively develop appropriate zoning, following similar actions by Painesville Township and Madison Township, which also adopted 12-month moratoriums. Titus suggested hiring an independent expert to assist the Planning Commission in this process.

The decision comes amidst strong public opposition to a proposed data center by California-based Province Group in nearby Perry Village. Residents have voiced concerns about potential environmental harm, excessive light and noise, and the facility's suitability for a residential community. The North Perry Village Council's resolution cited the need to assess the impact of data centers on the village's infrastructure, utilities, environment, and long-term planning goals.
