Meta Launches Training To Prepare Hoosiers for Data Center Jobs
Meta has launched a new workforce initiative called America's Workforce Academy in Indianapolis, offering a free training program to prepare individuals for data center construction jobs. Graduates of the program are guaranteed immediate employment with Meta contractors, aiming to address the shortage of skilled tradespeople needed for the expanding data center industry across the country.
Meta has announced the launch of America's Workforce Academy, a new initiative designed to train "Hoosiers" and other Americans for jobs in building the physical infrastructure required for the artificial intelligence boom. The company will offer a free, weeks-long training program at an Indianapolis career training facility, with the goal of boosting the number of skilled workers available for data center construction nationwide.
Indianapolis is one of four pilot locations for the academy, alongside Baton Rouge, Houston, and Columbus, Ohio. Participants in the four- or five-week bootcamps are guaranteed immediate employment with a Meta contractor upon graduation, working on one of the company's data center construction sites. Rachel Peterson, Meta's vice president of data centers, stated that the program creates "clear, accessible pathways" into careers for electricians, mechanics, and fiber technicians, which are in high demand.
This $115 million investment by Meta is touted as the largest private-sector commitment to skilled trades with a job guarantee in American history. The initiative comes as Meta has a massive data center under construction in Lebanon, Indiana, which is expected to generate 4,000 construction jobs, but only about 300 permanent positions. A previous Meta program to expand the data center construction workforce received 35,000 applications for 1,000 slots.
