County officials stated the pause is necessary to allow time to study the potential impacts of these rapidly growing industries on local water and electricity resources, infrastructure, and the environment. Jasper County Council Chairman Joey Rowell emphasized that the proposal is a way to "press the pause button" while criteria for these facilities are established.
The moratorium is not yet final and requires additional readings and approval from the county council before it can be enacted.
